Casual Entertaining

  • Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving just may be the easiest holiday to love. Delicious food, tons of friends and family gathered around the table, and a cocktail in your hand… just to name a few of your favorite things! Whether your style is cosmopolitan or traditional, a dramatic table with personalized touches is a sure way to make it a memorable holiday for all your guests.

Clear a side table or desktop in another room to create a cocktail bar. Incorporate a variety of spirits and Stirrings® Mixers, plus garnishes to allow guests to explore their cocktail creativity. Don’t forget to have plenty of non-alcoholic options for those who choose not to toast with spirits.

While the turkey roasts, put out plenty of light appetizers your guests can nibble on, along with bowls of cashews and pistachios. Make things easy for yourself and assemble one warm appetizer ahead of time so you can simply pop it in the oven when your guests arrive.

An impeccably set table is one of the most effective ways to spread a festive holiday mood. But a Thanksgiving table doesn’t have to be a Broadway production. All you need is a few inspired ideas. Simple wicker baskets filled with seasonal vegetables, fruit, and flowers is a great place to start!

  • Halloween Party

Who doesn’t love Halloween? As any fan of National Adult Dress Up Day can tell you, it’s all about the atmosphere – decorations, costumes, and of course, we can’t fall short when it comes to cocktails. The whole point is to create an atmosphere that evokes a macabre and reminds guests why they’re still afraid of the dark.

Don’t forget the atmospheric cocktails: Stirrings® Black Apple Martinis and Dirty Mary Martinis. Get creepy with the garnishes; Halloween cocktails should be tasty, but never tasteful (baby onion eyeballs, anyone?) Check out some of our over-the-top drinks in our recipe section to liven up your next haunted house.

New Orleans deviled crab cakes and scary sweet potato eyes are simply delicious and make for sophisticated, but fun Halloween fare.

First, pick a color scheme. And feel free to expand your palette beyond orange and black to ghostly white or even blood red. Create spooky shadows on the walls by using flashlights and strange objects from around the house. You’ll be amazed how eerie and chill-inducing an ordinary houseplant can be when illuminated by a flashlight.

Halloween parties are usually big, so a buffet-style table works best. Decorate the table with skeleton bones and black candelabras. Fill specimen bottles with bloody rags (old t-shirts with food coloring) and lots of gummy worms.
Tie napkins in the shape of a bone by tying knots at each end (so simple and so effective). Then cover absolutely everything in spider webs. Except maybe your date!

    • 1.5 oz. Crown Royal Double Black

Shake all ingredients over ice and strain into a martini glass.
    Garnish with gummy worms.

    Blood Orange Fizz

    • 3 oz. Stirrings® Blood Orange Martini Mixer
    • 1 oz. Stirrings® Authentic Grenadine
    • Splash of Raspberry Soda

Layer all ingredients in a tall glass filled with ice.
Stir gently. Garnish with gummy worms.

  • Fall Harvest Celebration

When the autumn leaves begin to change colors from green, to golden yellow, to vibrant burgundy; when apple season is just beginning; and when the local produce is plentiful, there is no better time to have friends over for a Harvest Celebration. The weather is still warm enough to start the party outside, and as the light fades, you can light a bonfire or move inside around the fireplace for dessert. So before you settle in for a long winter’s night, why not host a party that celebrates the ending of summer with Stirrings®?

Whether you are going to have a larger crowd or a smaller more intimate group of friends over, it’s great to begin with late afternoon cocktails served outside in the yard or on the deck. Pomegranate Martinis are seasonal, easy to prepare, and delicious.

Some good food options for any fall harvest party stem from popular fall foods. Head to your local farmers market and explore what is fresh and in season. Traditional fall foods like apples, pumpkins, and even corn are a great starting point for any fall gathering. Hosting a potluck dinner where everyone can bring a dish featuring seasonal fruits or vegetables is a great opportunity for sharing recipes and learning new culinary ideas.

Decorate the area with popular fall decor such as corn stalks, mums and pumpkins. Create table toppers with mini gourds hollowed out to house a small votive candle, creating a lovely soft lighting effect.

For a little extra decadence, rim the glass with Stirrings® Cosmopolitan Rimmer before pouring your drink!

    Pomegranate Spritzer

    • 3 oz. Stirrings® Pomegranate Mixer
    • 3 oz. Raspberry flavored soda water
    • Fresh Raspberries

Place raspberries into a champagne flute.
Pour in the Stirrings® Pomegranate Mixer and top with the raspberry-flavored soda water.

  • Bridal Showers

Such a joyous occasion calls for a fun theme. How about High Tea? And since it is a bridal shower, add the four most important things to the décor: something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue. Have guests wear fancy gloves or hats to keep the mood festive and light. Getting everyone involved always leads to a great time!

Serve all the drinks – even the cocktails – in fancy teacups to create the perfect setting. Nothing quite says “Celebrate!” like champagne cocktails such as a Bellini or a Mimosa. Festive, fruity, and fun!

Keeping with the High Tea Theme, light fare is best. Serve delicious smoked salmon sandwiches with a watermelon, arugula, and feta salad on the side and everyone will be raising their pinky fingers!

For something borrowed, borrow your mother’s china or an assortment of fancy teapots from friends and/or guests [BYOT = Bring Your Own Teapot]. For a centerpiece, fill teapots with fresh flowers and set them on a handkerchief or embroidered cloth that can serve as your something old.

For Something Blue, tie fresh white napkins with a knotted blue satin ribbon.

For place settings, place a small silver frame at each place setting with a picture of the bride-to-be and the guest. They make for elegant, classic favors that can serve as both decoration and takeaways, and also as something new.

The most important thing to remember is that this is a once-in-a-lifetime occasion for the guest of honor, so let your excitement flow. Pass it on to your guests in every detail, and above all else, make the shower every bit as special as you want it to be.
