In parts of the world, May ushers in one of the first tomato harvests of the growing season. Tomatoes have become increasing popular on cocktail menus. “ Long the stars of the farmer’s markets, heirloom tomatoes have caught bartender’s fancies in a major way. The result is a slew of tomato-based cocktails that leave the Bloody Mary way, way behind,” says Jonathan Miles from the New York Times. Get creative with this fruit (yes, tomatoes are fruits) by adding 3 oz. tequila to 1/3 of a cup of tomato juice, 1 pinch of dill, and fresh cilantro leaves as a garnish. If spice and tomato juice go hand in hand for you, use a touch of wasabi to the beverage.
Enjoy and please drink responsibly.
