Dirty Martini

When Franklin Roosevelt met Joseph Stalin and Winston Churchill in Tehran, he offered them each a classic Dirty Martini. The Dirty Martini, “dirty” because of the olive juice brine that clouds the otherwise clear liquid, has marked special gatherings made in the U.S.A ever since.

Did you know: When President Franklin Roosevelt signed the act repealing the Prohibition on March 22, 1933 he celebrated with the first legal martini – his Dirty Martini – 2 parts gin, to one part dry vermouth with a teaspoon of olive brine, an olive and a lemon peel rubbed around the rim of the glass.

I love this stuff! It is much more flavorful than the sometimes weak brine that comes with olives and very convenient too. I usually buy all they have at the ABC store. I wish I could buy it in a 750 ml bottle or by the case!!

This is the best mixer for Dirty Martini's. It has more taste and less calories than all the others. I just wish the Fresh Market could keep it in stock!

Somehow this mixer has jumped the shark. it used to be rich and dark very different from other Dirty Mixes. Now it's lighter with less intensity. The proof is in the picture on the website. Match it to the bottle in the store. Btw the original version I tasted the the Fancy Food show was amazing. I think there is a huge opportunity to get this mix back to what it once was...
